Grow Eyelashes Back Using Lumigan

The question -” How do you grow eyelashes back?” has been asked over and over again. The answer could be here. This question may be asked because, maybe,  age, heredity or a medical condition robbed you of your once long and full eyelashes?  Would you be interested in using a drug that could help grow eyelashes like you once enjoyed?  Long and full eyelashes are a universal symbol of beauty, youth and sex appeal, and are coveted by women around the world.  However, due to advancing age, heredity and certain medical conditions, many women struggle to grow eyelashes naturally, and have to resort instead to methods such as mascara, eyeliner, false eyelashes and even surgical extensions.

These methods have been around for years, but because of a recently approved drug—a drug that can help women grow eyelashes back longer and on their own—you could certainly make a case that these methods may soon be obsolete. In this article we will examine this wonder drug in more detail, discussing first its efficacy in helping to grow eyelashes, followed by a closer look at some of the safety concerns and side effects.

New Drug May Help to Grow Eyelashes Back

While both men and women tend to lose eyelashes as they age—a circumstance that may make their eyes grow eyelashes backmore susceptible to dust and foreign particles—the problem is of particular concern to women due to the “beauty” factor.  So it’s really no surprise that when an anti-glaucoma medication was recently introduced that could help grow eyelashes back, there were many women who immediately sat up and took notice.

Billed as the “ultimate solution to grow eyelashes for real,” the medication is called Lumigan, and early results seem to prove that the drug may just do what it claims, even though that was not its original purpose.  Lumigan has been used for years to treat glaucoma, the world’s leading cause of blindness, and one the drug’s side effects—a side effect that was, quite frankly, discovered by accident—is that it helps not only to grow eyelashes longer, but also increases the number of new eyelashes, making them look very full and defined.

Lumigan is not an ingested drug, but a topical serum that is applied to the base of the eyelashes once a day.  Women who have used the drug have reported noticeable results in just a few short weeks. The active ingredient in Lumigan is bimatoprost, and it, like other drugs of its kind belong to a class of drugs called prostaglandins.  Doctors know that Lumigan helps to treat glaucoma by reducing the amount of pressure in the eye, but the question as to how this drug can help grow eyelashes is a question that doctors are so far unable to answer.

Grow Eyelashes Back Longer:  Is Lumigan Safe?

lumigan treated eyelashesMost doctors and ophthalmologists believe that Lumigan is fairly safe, and while a few of them admitted they would prescribe the drug for the purpose of growing longer eyelashes, the majority of doctors claimed they would be hesitant to do so, largely due to some of the drug’s side effects.  According to one doctor at Loyola hospital, while the side effects are seen as negligible when the drug is used to treat glaucoma, to prescribe Lumigan merely for the purpose of growing eyelashes would be too much risk when measured against the reward.

Lumigan has been known to cause a darkening of the skin around the eye, and in some patients can cause a gradual change of eye color.  Rarer, more serious side effects include inflammation inside the eye and painful swelling in the back of the retina. However, many women overlook this in their quest to grow eyelashes back but long term, this could have dire consequences for them.

The verdict among most doctors seems to be that, for women with medical conditions that prevent the growth of eyelashes, or for those who have lost their eyelashes due to chemotherapy treatment, Lumigan may be an appropriate treatment.  On the other hand, women not in these circumstances, who indeed can grow their own lashes, may not want to use Lumigan due to some of the above-named side effects.
